NEXT STEP:
Broadband Workforce Training

Certification Exam

To complete broadband workforce training,
students must take the BICSI certification exam.

Step One: Create Your Exam Account
First-time test takers must create a Pearson VUE web account.
When creating your account, you will need:
  • TWO forms of identification
  • Your BICSI ID
  • Approval by BICSI prior to scheduling a certification exam. To receive approval, you must pass the practical test with the instructor on the last day of the BICSI in-person training.
  • Authorized to Test Letter (ATT Letter)
Please ensure that your first and last name on your ATT Letter matches your first and last name on your two forms of identification.

Step Two:  Schedule Your Exam
WITHIN 30 days of completion of training program

Here is the link to the BICSI Pearson VUE page that has the exam links for the classes: https://www.pearsonvue.com/us/en/bicsi.html

There are 12 Pearson VUE test centers across New Mexico. Students may register and take the certification exam at any of the 12 Pearson VUE test centers across New Mexico.

Step Three: Prepare for the Certification Exam
Download and review the Exam Preparation Guide:
  •  Installer 1 Exam Preparation Guide
(Exam has 75 questions, 2 hour exam)
  • Installer 2 Fiber Exam Preparation Guide (coming soon)
(Exam has 100 questions, 2 hour exam)
  • Installer 2 Copper Preparation Guide (coming soon)
(Exam has 100 questions, 2 hour exam)

Study: Study the Information Technology Systems Installation Methods Manual (
ITSIMM) you received during your in-person training program. We recommend 50 hours of individual study of the ITSIMM prior to taking the certification exam.

Demo Test: We also recommend taking the Pearson Vue Demo Test (The Demo Test is timed, and you will have 35 minutes to complete 14 questions. PS - The demo test does not contain actual fiber certification test questions.)

Step Four: Take the Certification Exam and Pass It
The Exam is administered at centers.

      In-Person Testing
  • Plan to arrive early to get settled ahead of your scheduled exam
  • Leave any test prep materials at home
  • Give yourself enough time to get to the test center
  • Bring the proper IDs with you

Your training, in-person practical exam, and first attempt written exam are covered by the Broadband Workforce Training Opportunity Program. The first-attempt exam includes registration, testing with Pearson Vue, and an exam score report for unsuccessful attempts.

In the event you are unsuccessful in passing your first-attempt exam, EXAM RE-TEST FEES APPLY and must be paid directly to Pearson Vue by YOU.
